More on Day 17... 21st July
It is also the first time, mum and dad both left Emma at home and went out to the kitchen place for around an hour. Left Emma with granddad. He offered.
Apparently she has been crying while we were gone as she was hungry... which granddad didn't know what to do. But yeah, just had to keep holding her and comforting her.
Mum got on the job of feeding her soon after arriving home....
I must say, I was rather anxious leaving her at home with my dad. Just never had done this before, we've always been around her. But I must say... it's good to have the options to do so.
And this is also the 2nd night that we found, if we top her up with some formula before bed (last feed of 10pm ish) then she sleeps for a good 4-5 hours before waking up again.
I only woke her at 3am this morning to feed again, eventually finished feeding her and put her to bed at 4:30am, yes, took a while.... But she's been sleeping since then till 8:30am and this time, only on breask milk.
I think the mum is slowly accepting that, topping up with formula isn't all that evil.... if it means a good night sleep and sane parents... and she's also getting mainly breast milk... why do we want to make our lives harder than what it is?
But I tried expressing again, this time, after 40-50 mins, I actually got 35mls! I was happy! That was the first part of top up we gave her last night, and that way she only finished 30 mls of formula. But the interesting thing is, she drank all that, after staying on the boobs feeding for almost an hour!! I'm sure she has to be growing or going through some growing phase! Even her little fingers have become chubbier rather than skinny and wrinkly!
So I think what I will try and do is, to have a bottle of 60ml ish breask milk expressed for the late night feed... so we can all have a nice 4-5 hour sleep before the next feed.
It's amazing! I used to go to bed at 9pm and sleep till 5am... 8 hour sleep. Now, if I get a good solid 3-4 hours sleep in a block, then another 1-2 hours sleep... I feel rather awake throughout the day!
Although, I sure will look forward to the time we can sleep through the night again... probably will get there...after 6 months?? I don't know, when do babies supposed to be able to last through the night?
Oh well :p at the moment, just getting through one feed at a time.
Already, this week has gone by a lot faster, at least it feels like it has.
Previous weeks... each day feels like a year....
Oh another thing I might try some time is, feed her only on formula on one feed, just out of curiosity to see how much she actually drinks per feed... :P We will see
